She's all caught up!!

On February 19th, Sofia officially started crawling. She traveled about 5 feet. She finally figured out that even though it is not her favorite mode of transportation, it does get her places more quickly than rolling does. Each day she crawls farther, and more often, and with more coordination. Soon she will have "The Crawl" mastered. It's time to baby proof the house!

At the same time, Sofia is also learning to walk.... her absolute favorite way to get around. She is now, while holding my two fingers, walking very quickly around the entire house. She loves to walk and would do it all day, but mama's back is not used to bending over for such a long time. Good thing she is tall and I am short. I don't have to bend as far to help her.

When Sofia arrived in December, she had an appointment with her pediatrician, and the Dr. referred Sofie to the Birth to 3 year Program to help her catch up on some of her delays; mainly, gross motor, and communication. (Sofia didn't get much of a chance to move around in the orphanage, and she only knew Russian when she first arrived.) So about three weeks ago, a person from the program came out to do a screening to see if Sofia should be evaluated. At that time, she noticed a slight delay in movement and speech, so she did put in for an evaluation which took place today. Guess who has caught up in all areas? The program is not necessary, she has caught up developmentally to her age group. Congratulations Sofia!! The only thing we need to work on with her is feeding. Don't worry, she still has a ZACHARI appetite. She just has not yet figured out that she should feed herself finger food. She never saw others eat, and wasn't allowed to touch the food at the orphanage, so it is new to her. So the Birth to 3 program will send me some techniques to use with her to get her motivated to feed herself, and they'll check in with us in 3 months. How nice to know she has come such a long way.
