A Birthday Bath for a One Year Old

Sofia's Big Day

Today was very, very special. We celebrated Sofie's first birthday. It started off as a normal day, hanging out in pjs for as long as possible. Then... the birthday bath. She was all scrubbed and polished for a celebration with friends. Sofie played with her first balloon, which she enjoyed very much. She also had her first taste of cake. Not crazy about it, but she didn't complain either. Since she doesn't like to get messy, she just had small bites and licked her lips clean. Not the usual reaction to food that is not meat, potatoes, or vegetable.

The greatest gift was feeling the love of friends surrounding her.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SOFIA!!!

Now and Then

Three months together

Three months ago today, I came home with Sofia. It seems to me like we've been together forever. We have created a beautiful, strong bond as mother and daughter.

She has come such a long way in this short time together. Even though I see her everyday, I can see the changes in her daily. She no longer has a "jack o lantern" smile. Her other top tooth and bottom tooth came in yesterday. That's four front teeth. She is such a good crawler that my days of going "potty" in private are over, since she has now taken to following me around wherever I go. She gets up to standing position whenever there is something to grab onto. She can stand and balance herself for a couple of seconds. She seems to like the feeling of letting go and standing independently.

There are so many firsts in her life. Her first pancake, her first time sitting in grass (today), her first time seeing Lake Michigan and going to the park (Thank goodness for the spring temperatures. I was getting cabin fever), her first Marquette Game (almost, she didn't quite make it),her first sleepover, her first time hanging on our deck, her first St. Patrick's Day party.

She has been very healthy these past three months. Not one cold. (knock on wood) She is growing taller and gaining weight. She still has a terrific appetite. She didn't cry much when her teeth came in. She still sleeps through the night.. and until the glorious hours of 8 or 9 am. What an angel baby I have!!

Tomorrow is a big day. She will be ONE year old!! I can't wait to celebrate my precious gift.
